First United Methodist Church carolers with assistance from Ada Public Library helped bring Christmas to Ada on Monday evening. The carolers were part of a church live nativity. A visit from Santa was sponsored by the library. It was all part of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce's Merry on Main celebration. Ken Collins shares this and several additional photos. The December Vancrest resident spotlight shines on 101-year-old Emma Spradlin, who lived most of her life in Hardin County. Here’s her story:
Emma was born in Kentucky, where attended a small school until her family moved to Ohio.
She picked onions at a farm in McGuffey. There she met her future husband, and says the meeting was memorable: he threw an onion at her.
The couple was married in Kentucky and eventually had nine children, as Emma puts it: “We greatly enjoyed a large family.” She adds that her favorite occupation was being a mother.
The Ohio Northern University student chapter of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) earned several awards at the organization’s recent annual meeting.
The ONU chapter received the 2019 NCPA Student Chapter of the Year Award. This award is given to the student chapter that demonstrates excellence throughout the year in promoting independent pharmacy and advocating for the profession.
Evaluation of chapters is based upon criteria such as program originality, innovation, number of chapter members involved, impact on the community, benefit to student chapter members, and collaboration with independent pharmacies and health care organizations.
St. Paul’s UCC presents a children’s Christmas musical "It All Happened In The Country" on Sunday, Dec. 15 at the church, 4443 Township Rd. 25 (St. Paul's Rd.), Ada.
About the play
Daniel and Chelsea, two city slickers, get stranded in the country and find out there is more to Christmas than the hustle and bustle of presents and decorations. With the help of Cora May, cousin Luther, Uncle Yule and Granny, they learn the story of Christ's birth and how it all happened in the country...the countryside of Bethlehem.
