HARDIN COUNTY–As Hardin County farmers finish planting this year’s corn and soybeans, crop  yields from the 2022 growing season have been released from the United States Department of  Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service. Although these crop production  numbers are based on estimates, they are used for crop insurance and government reporting  purposes.

The picnic will take place on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Cash prizes will be given to the king, queen, prince and princess–honors awarded to the boys and girls who sell the most picnic raffle tickets. Crowning will be done the morning of the picnic following the parade.

The Alger Public Library will be closed Monday, May 29, 2023, in observance of Memorial Day, and will reopen on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The 5th meeting of the Lynn Valley Farmers 4-H Club was held on 05/24/2023 at the Lynn Township Hall.

Old Buisness-

National organizations are recognizing Ohio Northern University’s efforts to encourage students to vote.

Led by Institute for Civic and Public Policy’s (ICAPP) campus voting initiatives, the work has resulted in ONU’s designation as a Voter Friendly Campus, a fourth annual program led by national nonpartisan organizations Campus Vote Project (CVP) and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. ICAPP student Fellows, led by institute director and political science professor Robert Alexander, Ph.D., worked with organizers to set goals, submit a statement of interest, form a coalition, draft an action plan.

Dolores Jean Searfoss, age 89, of Harrod, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 6:12 p.m. at her residence, surrounded by her family.  

She was born on May 16, 1934, in Lima, Ohio to the late John and Nevelda (Hall) Basil.  On September 11, 1955, Dolores married Milan Dean Searfoss and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2023. 

Dolores is survived by her three children: Becky (Gary) Werling of Harrod, Ryan (Teresa) Searfoss of Harrod, and Bob (Kathy) Searfoss of West Chester; two grandchildren: Chad Werling, and Nick (Morgan) Searfoss; four great grandchildren: Charlotte, Beckham, Calvin and Hudson Searfoss.
