County Road 15 bridge rehabilitation in process

In late March, The Icon visited the bridge project that crosses Hog Creek on Hardin County Road 15, west of Ada. Here’s a one month progress report.

The bridge is closed until mid-June while undergoing rehabilitation, according to the Hardin County engineer’s office.

The project, estimated at $220,314, includes work handled by the county and U.S. Bridge of Cambridge. A portion of the cost is covered by a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission. The U.S. Bridge portion of the project is estimated at $170,314 and the county's share is $50,000.

Visiting Kenton won a tense 3-2 pitcher's duel over county rival Ada in a non-conference softball game Wednesday evening.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 8-10 overall with the loss, while Kenton improved to 2-14 with the win.

Ada sophomore Leona Dalton hurled a two-hit complete game but was tagged with the tough loss. She struck out seven and walked three while giving up just two earned runs.

The Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. Raina England singled, stole a base and came in to score on a hit by Kiersten Cortez.

Visiting Kenton put together two seven-run innings to defeat the Ada baseball team 16-5 in a county rivalry battle Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs fell to 8-9 with the non-league defeat, and the Wildcats improved to 4-9 with the win.

Kenton broke up a scoreless game with seven runs in the top of the third inning, then scored seven more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Ada plated two runs in the home fourth. Phillip Coulson stole two bases and came around to score the first Bulldog run. Connor Frazier looped a single to center field to cut the deficit to 7-2.

Several area fire department are on the scene of a house fire in Alger this morning (April 25), according to scanner traffic.

The fire at 8091 County Road 35 has the following departments on the scene: Ada-Liberty, Roundhead, Alger and McGuffey.

Several annual Ada Saturday summer events are on the calendar. Complete details are still in the works. In the meantime, here’s a peak at what to anticipate:

• June 1 – Ada Public Library summer reading program kickoff
• July 6  – Lima Symphony Orchestra patriotic pops concert – on the ONU lawn
• July 20 – Ada VFW cruise-in
• Aug. 24 – Wilson football garage sale, 8 a.m. to noon
• Aug. 24 – Made in Ada Wilson Football Festival, watch for more details on the Icon

The Alger Public Library's free monthly movie night for for May is Friday, May 26 at 6:30 p.m.  All ages are invited and a free snack is also provided.  

This month's movie will be "Bumbelbee," from the Transformers series.
