Special dedication Monday in the railroad park

The Village of Ada, Ohio Northern University, and numerous contributors have partnered to honor Union veterans of the Civil War on Memorial Day.

Commemorative bricks, each inscribed with the name, rank, and unit of 82 Civil War veterans from Ada and Liberty Township, will be dedicated at 10 on Monday in Railroad Park.

The bricks have been installed at the base of the Civil War monument in the park, which is located at Main Street and Central Avenue. The monument, a Civil War era siege cannon on a granite base, stands next to the Pennsylvania Railroad caboose and across the street to the north of Liberty National Bank.

Phil Coulson places large banners and many balloons in Ada and on the way to Findlay to support the Ada High School softball team. The  Bulldog booster is the proud father of Teara, a member of the team which won its first district title on Saturday. The Bulldogs, now with a 17-8 record, meet Tinora at 5 p.m. today in Findlay in a regional semi final game. (Monty Siekerman photo)

Don Traxler is Memorial Day featured speaker

Ada VFW Ream-McElroy Post 9381 and the Ada American Legion Post will sponsor a Memorial Day service at Woodlawn Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 28. All are welcome.

Don Traxler, former mayor and retired ONU professor, will speak on “Let Freedom Ring” saying all should have the four Fs in their life: faith, family, friends, and fun.

Members of the Ladies Auxiliary will place wreaths in memory of servicemen who died in wars, including the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish American War, Mexican War, World War I, U.S. Veteran, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf, Iraq War and Afghanistan.

ONU graduate Honorable Jessica E. Price Smith delivered commencement address

Eighty-five law students received Juris Doctor or Master of Laws degrees during commencement ceremonies on Sunday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center Field House.

The impressive ceremony includes the investiture of hoods and the presentation of diplomas to all candidates who qualify for the degrees.

The Hon. Jessica E. Price Smith, an ONU graduate and bankruptcy judge, gave the commencement address. She received the honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

Ohio Northern sophomore Josh Mohr (Oregon/Clay) and junior Luke Klinehoffer(Zanesville/John Glenn) have been earned American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Mideast Region honors for the 2018 season.

 

The Polar Bears finished the season with a 27-15 record and advanced to the OAC Tournament for the first time in 18 years under seventh-year head coach Gene Stechschulte.

 

Mohr was named Second Team All-Mideast Region, while Klinehoffer was named Third Team All-Mideast Region.
