Ada's Union civil war vets remembered
The Village of Ada, Ohio Northern University, and numerous contributors have partnered to honor Union veterans of the Civil War on Memorial Day.
Commemorative bricks, each inscribed with the name, rank, and unit of 82 Civil War veterans from Ada and Liberty Township, will be dedicated at 10 on Monday in Railroad Park.
The bricks have been installed at the base of the Civil War monument in the park, which is located at Main Street and Central Avenue. The monument, a Civil War era siege cannon on a granite base, stands next to the Pennsylvania Railroad caboose and across the street to the north of Liberty National Bank.
ONU Prof. Ray Schuck and two of his students, Max Hiller and Elizabeth Meyer, have identified and documented 82 men from Ada and Liberty Township who served in the United States Army between 1861-1865.
The Village of Ada provided the commemorative bricks at cost. Businesses and individuals have sponsored bricks, which has made this tribute to local veterans possible.
All are invited to honor the brave men of the United States Army who fought to preserve the Union and free a people.
