Six barns in Jenera-Arlington area open to the public

The Hancock County Historical Museum's fall historical barn tour is Saturday, Sept. 16.

The self-guided tour showcases six century-old barns in southern Hancock County around the communities of Jenera and Arlington.

Barns on the tour are:

• Houdeshell-Rettig-Bateson barn, 1860s

• Martz-Pifer-Bateson barn, 1870s

• Glick-Pepple barn 1850s-1860s

Ada wins non-conference contest - box score attached

Ada's varsity football team defeated Arlington 34-20 in non-conference action on Sept. 1. Watch the Icon for complete game coverage.

Tickets on sale now - drawing is Oct. 3

ReStore of Ada is holding an Ohio State jacket raffle fund-raiser in September.

Three jackets will be given away during the raffle, on an Tuesday, Oct. 3, drawing. Tickets are available at ReStore and are $1 each or six for $5.

Red Cross continues to accept donations

Saundra Neely delivered several donations for Hurricane Harvey aid to the North Central Ohio Chapter of the Red Cross serving Hancock, Crawford, Hardin, Marion, Monroe, Seneca, Union and Wyandot Counties located in Findlay.

One donation was a check from Ada's Junior Civic League representing part of the proceeds from the group's annual pecans sales.  These sales will be starting again this fall with delivery in November.  Pecans can be ordered at the JCL booth at the Ada Harvest and Herb Fest.

The No. 22-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team opened its 2017 season with an 18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15 victory over Case Western Reserve in the opening match of the 39th Annual ONU Invitational on Friday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

Senior Haley Potters (Wheelersburg/South Webster) had an outstanding opener for the Polar Bears (1-0), posting an impressive .750 hitting percentage with 19 kills and one error on just 24 attempts.

The Ohio Northern women's golf program will look to post its sixth consecutive upper-division Ohio Athletic Conference during the 2017-18 campaign under 5th-year head coach Chad Bucci.

The Polar Bears finished the 2016-17 season on a strong note as they finished third at the OAC Championships and finished 26-27 overall.

Bucci welcomes welcomes back nine letterwinners to a very experienced Polar Bear team.

"We like the group we have coming back this season," said Bucci. "They played a big role in our success last season."

Northern opens the fall schedule on Sept. 2-3 as it hosts the ONU Classic at Colonial Golf Club.
