Ada's latest news

Heather Cox called the 43rd meeting (September 2, 2014) of the 2013–2014 Kiwanis Club to order at 12 noon in McIntosh Center, ONU.

The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress.

The birthdays of members Jolene Bailey (August 23) and Marilyn Green (September 7) were noted.

The wedding anniversaries of Mike and Ann Hood (August 21, 1976), Craig and Heather Cox (August 21, 1999), Dave and Kelly MacDonald (August 22, 1999) and Mark and Julie Shull (August 28, 1955) were also noted.

The presentation to the Ada-Liberty EMS for pediatric bears and kits was held last week.

A card was sent to Sandy Neely for her recent surgery.

Some witnesses called it the story of the century in Ada. On Sept. 4 the 18,000-pound steeple (9 tons) was put in place 54 feet above ground level at the First United Methodist Church. Over 200 persons, including church members and Ada residents, watched the 45-minute process. The top of the steeple is 91 feet above the ground. Watch for lots of photos and videos coming.

The Ohio Northern University gallery program opens its 2013-14 art exhibition and gallery season at the Elzay Gallery of Art with “I Dream of All Things: Photographs by Emily Jay.” The exhibit runs from Sept. 2 to Oct. 10.

Jay’s exhibit explores the relationship between promise, breaking and beauty. It is a photographic exploration of slipping into and out of dreams, as they come to be and as they come to fall apart. Jay’s latest work uses painting, photography and installation as she attempts to catalog remnants of aesthetic experience encountered in the mundane.

A well-deserved and impromptu round of applause.

That sound resonated throughout Main Street Ada at 10:40 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 4, marking the successful lifting and placement of a 18,000-pound steeple (9 tons) atop the Ada First United Methodist Church.

LOTS OF PHOTOS AND VIDEOS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS STORY.

An appreciative crowd of over 200 persons talked, hugged, photographed, took videos and walked away knowing they’d remember today for a long, long time.

One person said it might be the event of the century in Ada.
