A tide pool with shrimp

By Monty Siekerman
Sometimes, almost never, you find what might look like a flying shrimp in the most unlikely place...and all of this has a local connection.

Judith Greavu, ONU art professor emerita, sculpted “Tide Pool with Shrimp” a bronze and fused glass creation on display in Lakeland, Fla., now through the end of the year.

Admiring the winning artwork in Florida is Ada Icon Editor Monty Siekerman. Judith’s sculpture was one of 10 pieces selected from 65 proposals submitted to be displayed along Lemon Street in the heart of downtown Lakeland. She retired after teaching sculpture at Ohio Northern for 20 years.

The Ada High School 1919 football team was undefeated, but tied one game, their last one with Defiance.

The team that year was a powerhouse on defense, holding every opponent scoreless until that last game.

OH AZ PA was spotted at the Bluffton shuffleboard court during the first match of the season. It's on a blue Chevy Silverado LTZ. Any doubts that this plate means Ohio, Arizona and Pennsylvania?

The Ohio Northern men's basketball team will tip off its 2018-19 campaign as it hosts area- rival Defiance at the ONU Sports Center on Nov. 13 under third-year head coach Rich Bensman.

The Polar Bears begin the season with back-to-back home contests for the first time since the 1994-95 season as it hosts Denison at the ONU Sports Center on Nov. 17 following Northern's contest with Defiance.

Northern's first road contest will be at Hope (Mich.) on Nov. 20 at a time yet to be announced.

Winner of Lions choice award

Dave and Kim Smittle's 1947 MG TC was picked for the Lions choice award at this past weekend's antique car show in Bluffton.

The Bluffton Lions Club hosts the annual show. The Lions choice award is determined by a vote of Lion members who volunteer at the car show. Nearly 200 vehicles were entered this year.

Smittles entered their 1947 and their 1953 MGs in the show (see photo below). The best of show was another British vehicle, a 1955 bright red Sunbeam Alpine. The vehicle is owned by John Rundfuss of Bucyrus.
