April 25 media release__New classifications by the Carnegie Foundation and the American Council on Education reinforce the value and return on investment of an Ohio Northern University (ONU) education.

Ohio Northern is recognized as a "Mixed Undergraduate/Graduate-Doctorate Small" institution and classified as "Lower Access, Higher Earnings” in the newly redesigned 2025 Carnegie Classifications.

William Douglas Burris, age 83, of Harrod, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his beloved family and friends. 

Doug was born on July 7, 1941 to Charles and Cleah Burris. He was the oldest of nine children.  He is survived by his brother, Rick Burris and sister, Terri Bridenstein. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Patty, Karen, Lois, Marsha, Bucky and Bonnie; and a grandson, Mason Heffner.

Beatitudes community center and thrift store was transformed on Wednesday, April 23 into an apparel showcase with mostly Ohio Northern University students as models. Young women and men sashayed, strutted and skipped through a flock of tables wearing outfits found at the thrift store at 210 N. Main St., Ada.

MT. BLANCHARD – The streaking Ada High School softball team broke a late tie and beat Blanchard Valley Conference foe Riverdale 7-5 on a warm Monday evening, April 28.

Ada improved to 15-2 overall and 6-2 in the BVC with their seventh straight victory. The Bulldog girls have outscored their opponents 69-6 during the win streak.

The Falcons dropped to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in BVC play after the loss.

“We hit the ball hard but a lot of them were right at the defense,” said Bulldog head coach Jeff Bassitt. “It was a good ballgame.”

MT. BLANCHARD – The visiting Ada High School baseball team fell behind big early, then rallied late, but came up short 9-5 to new Blanchard Valley Conference rival Riverdale on Monday evening, April 28.

The Bulldogs tallied a run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. But the Falcons responded with three runs in the bottom of the first to gain the lead, and never trailed again.

The Falcons plated three runs in the third and added three scores in the fourth to build a 9-1 cushion. Ada tallied two runs in the fifth, plus single runs in the sixth and seventh, to cut the final deficit to four. 

Junior High girls win invitational, boys place 2nd
