ADA - The host Ada tennis team lost a 3-2 heartbreaker to Lima Central Catholic in the home opener on a cold and windy Wednesday evening during the first Bulldog varsity match on the new park courts.
The Thunderbirds improved to 3-0 with the hard-fought win, while Ada fell to 0-2 after the difficult loss.
Featuring an improved first serve and solid net play, Bulldog sophomore southpaw Dexter Woods III rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at second singles.
Brendan Jameson picked up the other Ada win by forfeit at third singles.
Both Bulldog doubles tandems fell in straight sets.
David D. Prater, 59, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021, at 7:48 p.m. at his residence in Harrod, Ohio.
He was born on Dec. 16, 1961, to the late Wayne and Leatrice (Williams) Prater.
Surviving are two brothers: Dennis Prater of Lima and Fred (Myndy) Prater of Texas; and a sister: Zora (Dave, dec.) Keasler of Harrod. He was a big brother and mentor to Chad Williams and Ben Hardesty.
David was contracted by Allied as a security guard. He worked at the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center as an officer and supervisor for 19 years. David loved mentoring kids. He was a 1980 Lima Senior High School graduate. David liked gardening and loved all pets.
Ohio Northern University law school graduate and Arlington native Stephanie M. Bishop was appointed to the Findlay Municipal Court by Gov. Mike DeWine today.
Bishop of Findlay, will assume office on April 9, and will replace Judge Mark C. Miller, who was elected to a different bench. Bishop will need to run for election in November 2021 for the unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2023.
Bishop served as assistant law director for the City of Findlay from May 2011 to March 2021. In this role, she managed and prosecuted misdemeanor criminal and traffic cases in the Findlay Municipal Court. Previously, Bishop served as assistant law director for the City of Fostoria.
Ada High School cheerleaders were recognized for their efforts during the winter cheering season.
Special awards went to: Tori Green and Ella Badertscher - 1st year letter winners, Madison Park - 2nd year letter winner, Molly Zimmerman - 2nd year letter winner and coaches award, Madison Deatherage - 3rd year letter winner, Barrette Jones - 4 year letter winner, Captain award and MVP award.
