Ada's latest news

It's a small sign, but one that tell us the days are getting longer. The sun casts a bright shadow as its rays pass through the large window of First United Methodist Church, Ada. We are heading in the direction of spring.

I have faith in our decency, and I hope to help people learn about why some things are considered “offensive.”

One of the characteristics that other generations use to describe Gen Z is “soft.”  Maybe that’s true.

I do believe that we are more sensitive than other generations. Our generation wants to set boundaries. Many members of Generation Z want to create an environment where people of all gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, and races feel safe.  We live in a free country. As a patriot, I believe that we need to respect people’s individual liberties that do not harm others.

LIMA - The Ada varsity swim teams competed in a four-team meet at the Lima YMCA Friday evening.

The Bulldog boys defeated Sidney-Lehman Catholic 28-17 to post the lone Ada win in the three boys and girls dual meets. The Lady Bulldogs lost three close dual meets despite some fine individual finishes.

"Overall, we were happy with how everyone swam," said Ada first-year head coach Katey Stuart. "This is usually the point in the season where we're most tired, so lifetime best times aren't expected. 

Russell Prater, 97, passed away on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at 7:14 p.m, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1924 in Salyersville, Kentucky, to Amos and Amlear (Wright) Prater who preceded him in death. On May 16, 1950, Russell married Maggie Webb and she passed away on May 24, 2019.

Russell was a U.S. Army Veteran who retired after serving his country for 20 years. He later worked for ScotLad Foods. 

Wanda G. Dodds, 81, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at 1:07 p.m. at Shawnee Manor, Lima.

She was born on April 9, 1939, in Lima, Ohio, to Robert Wright and Ruth Uteva (Gossard) Calverty who preceded her in death. On Dec. 25, 1964, Wanda married Ronald E. Dodds and he survives in LaFayette.

Wanda was a Christian and a homemaker. She was a member of the Congregational Christian Church of LaFayette.

Bulldogs face three opponents this week

DOLA - Host Hardin Northern reeled off 12 straight points in the final two minutes to rally past county foe Ada 41-33 in a tough non-conference boys basketball Saturday night showdown.

The Bulldogs held the lead for almost the entire final three periods, but lost their fourth close heartbreaker of the season due to the 12-0 HN closing rush.

HN junior Nevin Robson started the decisive finishing spurt with a baseline runner to inch the hosts within 33-31 as 1:31 remained to play. Luke Wilson then splashed a right side trifecta that put Northern on top 34-33 with 1:15 to play.
