Robert (Bob) and Karen (Gentry) Ward will celebrate 45 years of marriage on June 6, 2017.
Both are from the state of Missouri and were married in Karen’s hometown of Rolla in 1972.
The Wards moved to Ada, Ohio, in 1989, from Las Cruces, N.M., where Bob had been teaching at New Mexico State University.
Retiring in 2015 from Ohio Northern University, Bob served the T.J. Smull College of Engineering as a civil engineering professor. Karen and Bob both continue to enjoy the community of Ada, Ohio.
The Wards have three daughters and one son. The photo was taken in 1971.

High school commencements are rather formal affairs, mostly scripted the same from town to town, but this year's Ada High School graduation ceremony added a new feature, which was creative and fun: boomwhackers.
Nine senior band members, along with Band Director Johnathan Lischak, played a John Williams medley using colorful plastic "instruments," called boomwhackers. Even a flautist joined in during portions of the piece.

For Ada travelers, there will be fewer bumps in the road (if only life were that way).
Bluffton Paving Company will set up shop on Wednesday to pave several streets. Four areas of roadway will be milled, then repaved.
There will be no parking posted from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the soon-to-be improved streets. The work will be accomplished in only three days, weather permitting.
There are many events on the Hometown Happenings Icon calendar in the next 61 days.
The events range from Vacation Bible Schools, summer reading activities at the library, Fireside Friday's at The Inn at ONU and an Ada High School alumni banquet.
