Ada's latest news

Enjoyed by about 120 people

By Monty Siekerman
About 120 people enjoyed the traditional Thanksgiving dinner at ReStore on Tuesday evening. The meal consisted of turkey and ham and all of the trimmings.

ReStore has held a Thanksgiving dinner for many years as a time for family, friends, and neighbors to gather together to socialize and have a good time, as well as break bread.

Icon viewers:
I appreciate the Ada School Board/OSBA recognition for me/Ada Icon that was announced at this month's School Board meeting. Presenting the certificate and the listing in the OSBA Journal was kind, thoughtful, and considerate.

As I said around the table at the end of the meeting, you, the board, and the fiscal officers do a terrific job managing a school system that EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS.

You follow a legacy in Ada where public education has been in the forefront of community importance. When settlers first arrived in Ada, they began building small schoolhouses for their sons and daughters. That interest continues today.

Santa joined the parade Tuesday evening as part of the festivities accompanying the annual lighting of the Hardin County Courthouse for the Christmas season.

The Upper Scioto Valley Marching Band was also on hand as were stilt-walkers and numerous floats making their way around the courthouse. A large, festive crowd lined the parade route while braving temperatures in the mid-thirties. (Ken Collins photo)

Icon editor named to OSBS media honor roll

The Ohio School Board Association recognized Monty Siekerman for “fair and balanced education reporting, and exemplary service to the Ada community” during a meeting of the Ada School Board earlier this month. Monty is editor of the Ada Icon.

The OSBA invites school districts across Ohio to name local reporters to the association’s Media Honor Roll each year. OSBA recognizes the honorees in its Journal magazine and on its website.

t's time to show your colors. Who do you think will win the Ohio State versus Michigan football game on Saturday?

The Icon offers a handful of Shannon Theatre passes to the winner and runner-up. Here's how it works:
• You may enter as many times as you wish, but each entry must be under a different name.
• Entry deadline is noon, Saturday, Nov. 24.
• There are several spread-point options for contestants to chose the winner.
• The contest has two tie-breaker questions.
• If there is a tie after two tie breakers, the earliest entry wins.
