Gertrud Brown was a pediatric nurse
Gertrud T. Brown, age 96, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, March 6, 2022, in Lima, Ohio. She was born on January 11, 1926, in Wengern, Germany to the late Ernst and Gertrud (Liebermann) Gosemann. Gertrud married Randolph R. Brown of Kittanning, Pennsylvania in Berlin Germany on May 8, 1954. He proceeded her in death on December 2, 2006.
Gertrud is survived by her three daughters: Linda Bucheit of Florence, Montana, Tina Brown of Los Angeles, California and Petra Linnon of Ada, Ohio; five grandchildren: Alexandra Neiswonger (Ryan Hetrick), Cameron Bucheit, Matthew Bucheit, Gabriella Williams (Dylan Williams), and Craig Linnon, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren Avery and Aspen Williams.
Gertrud was preceded in death by her three sisters: Ruth Marschall, Dorthea Grunau, Kriemheld (Kitty) Davis and brother Horst Gosemann.
Gertrud worked as a pediatric nurse in Germany and England before coming to the United States and becoming a citizen in 1956. She was a military wife and traveled extensively during her husband’s tour of duty in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1964. After their military retirement, Gertrud served alongside her husband who was a pastor of The Church of the Nazarene. During those years she acted as children’s Sunday school teacher, missionary president and led many outreach programs that addressed needs within the community. After 20 years of ministry, they retired in Dubois, Pennsylvania in 1991.
Over the years, Gertrud made many lifelong friends all over the country and was great at keeping in touch as she enjoyed talking on the phone and was talented at writing letters. Throughout her life she kept her adventurous spirit and was able to make many trips back to Germany during her retirement years.
In her youth Gertrud worked at her grandfather’s bakery, there she developed a flare with candy and desserts. She became an accomplished baker and cook and loved entertaining family and friends.
Her many talents and hobbies included quilting, a knowledge of antiques and collecting where she perfected yard sales to an art form. She was known well throughout the community for her tireless energy and hospitality. Gertrud was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Flowers and memorial contributions may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main Street, Ada, OH 45810 where a celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at 1:15 p.m..
