Oldfield swims in 50 free

CANTON–Two Ada High School swimmers competed well in the preliminary heats of the Division II state meet at the C.T. Branin Natatorium Thursday night, February 23.

Ada sophomore Lily Baumgartner advanced to two top-eight A Finals races Friday evening, qualifying in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

She had the third-best swim out of 32 competitors in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.16. She won her heat race.

The top-seeded time 100 fly time of 54.56 was posted by junior Lilly Mehok of Hathaway Brown. Bexley sophomore Millie Evans is second (55.32).

Baumgartner finished fifth out of 32 swimmers in the 100 backstroke preliminaries. She touched the wall in 57.31.

Port Clinton junior Kami Periat (54.77) and Mehok (55.76) are seeded 1-2 in the 100 back finals.

The top eight preliminary times qualify a swimmer to the A Finals on Friday evening. The 9th-18th times qualify for the B Finals, with 17-18 making it as alternates.

Ada senior Carlie Oldfield finished in a 26th-place tie in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries with a time of 24.97. Periat was also first in the preliminaries for the 50 free (23.48).
