Did you know she helped train pilots in WWII?

You probably know Mary Bowden, but did you know she was once a link trainer operator?

And, what’s that? Well, during World War II she operated a simulator that helped train pilots.

There’s a lot more to know about Mary, and here’s another thing: this month, she is in the Vancrest resident spotlight.

Mary is a 1941 graduate of Ada High School. Her favorite food is ham and beans with cornbread. 

She’s a swimmer and was trained to teach swimming. The “crawl,” now called freestyle swimming, was her favorite stroke. 

Ada-Liberty Township Fire Department responded to three fire alarm fire calls – twice on Sept. 7 and once on Sept. 8, according to the Ada police docket.

On Sept. 7 at 9:25 p.m. the department had a call from Taggart Law library. Then, at 11:16 p.m. the department had a call from Hill Hall.

On Sept. 8, the department received a second call to Hill Hall, this one at 11:16 p.m.

Ada hosts neighbor Bluffton on Friday

COLUMBUS GROVE - Host Columbus Grove    rode a potent quick-strike offense to a 52-18 win over Ada in their annual Northwest Conference Bulldog battle Friday night at Clymer Stadium.

CG (2-0, 2-0 NWC East) cruised to a 49-6 halftime lead to pave the way for the one-sided victory. Meanwhile, Ada fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the NWC East with the loss. 

"Grove dominated up front on both sides of the ball," said Ada third-year head coach Shawn Christopher. "They are a very good football team, and I see them as one of the best in the area.

KENTON - The Ada golf team finished third in the four-team Hardin County Invitational at the Kenton Memorial Golf Course Saturday.

Host Kenton won the tournament with a total of 187 strokes. Ridgemont finished second with a 196 score, followed by Ada (237) and Riverdale (249).

The Bulldog linksters improved to 2-22 after the event.

Junior Andrew Rush paced the Bulldogs with a nine-hole score of 52. Senior Jacob Morgan was second with a 60, followed closely by junior Dexter Woods at 61. Sophomore Geddes Klingler was the fourth scorer with a round of 64.

Junior Kamron Wilkerson added a score of 65.

The Icon's most recent historic Ada photo showed the Ada High School football team from 1940.
