Shirley V. Whetzler worked for Wilson Sporting Goods
Shirley V. Whetzler, age 94, of Ada, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 9:12 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born on April 5, 1929, in Ada, Ohio to the late Charles and Katheryn (Businger) Rayl. In 1946, Shirley married John M. Dunbar and he passed away in 1977. She later married in 1979, Donald Whetzler, and he passed away in 1998.
Shirley retired from Wilson Sporting Goods, Ada. She was also a member of the Liberty Grange for several years. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting and collecting chickens.
Shirley is survived by her four grandchildren: Christopher (Jennifer) Obenour, Amelia (Gary Short) Downing, Shelia (Gary) Smith and Sam Obenour all of Bellefontaine: four great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Daniel B. Obenour; and her four brothers: Wally (Jean) Rayl of WY, Gerald Rayl of Ada, Jerry (Alta) Rayl of Ada, and Charles (Jan) Rayl of Lima.
Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Obenour; two brothers: Dan Rayl, and David Rayl; and a sister, Josephine Willeke.
Graveside service and burial of cremated remains will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Woodlawn Cemetery Chapel, Ada with Pastor Robin Ricks officiating.
