Bulldog girls soccer blanks Coldwater

ADA__The Ada High School girls soccer team scored early and made it stand up in a 2-0 shutout win over visiting Coldwater in a non-league match on Tuesday night, August 18 at War Memorial Stadium.

The unbeaten Bulldog girls improved to 2-0 with their second straight home clean sheet win.

Coldwater dropped to 0-1 after the loss.

“This was a good statement win for us,” said Ada head coach Doug Dewese. “Coldwater is a very good soccer team, and we came out firing in the first half and dominated play.

“We put two goals in that half, and then it turned into weathering Coldwater’s assault in the second half,” he continued. “They were much more physical and came out fired up in the second half, but the Ada girls handled the pressure well and stopped all but a few attacks cold.

“Those few we missed, we were able to depend on Emily Gibson to make some key saves,” Dewese noted. “She had a great one v. one save in the first half that was a huge momentum-killer also. We got great games out of our midfield and defense, specifically Aubry Jordan getting us on the board.”

Ada sophomore Aubry Jordan and junior Aliyah Kober scored the first-half goals to stake the Bulldogs to a two-goal intermission lead.

Jordan tallied the first goal unassisted, and Kober netted her second goal of the season on a placed direct kick.

Neither team scored in the second half.

Emily Gibson made a good save in the final minute to preserve the shutout. The Bulldog keeper ended up with seven saves.

Ada got off 10 shots compared to eight by the Cavaliers.

“Reese Jordan, Aliyah Kober and Lynkin McDougal were a stone wall on defense when it mattered,” Dewese remarked. “Our midfield – Avary Acheson, Shay Smith, Emily Shanks, Maycie Dewese, Ashley Williams and Chloe Hunsicker – were flying all over the place also and made it hard for Coldwater to build anything up.

“I knew this would be a tough one and we put in the effort and got the win,” the Ada coach summed up. “So very proud of the girls.”

Ada plays at former NWC foe Spencerville (1-0) Thursday evening. The Bearcat girls shut out Calvary Christian 3-0 on Tuesday night.
