The skin is the largest organ of the body, and skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States regardless of age, race or skin color.
The disease incidence is reaching an epidemic level. Over 5.5 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year, and approximately 15,000 people die each year from this disease. The current estimate is that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. The US average annual cost of treating skin cancer is about $8 billion.

Sitting in a group of friends one of the ladies brought up a story about seeing a ghost at her downtown apartment. I had to hear the whole story and went to visit my friend.
Mercy Health - St. Rita’s Medical Center Volunteer/Auxiliary Resources president, Joyce Gerdeman, presented a check for $240,000 to Ronda Lehman, president of St. Rita’s, during St. Rita’s Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon recently.
This donation was made on behalf of all St. Rita’s volunteers which includes 438 adults, 82 college students, 132 summer teen volunteers, 125 shadowing students and 209 supporting members. 275 volunteers were in attendance at the event.

Zach Hurth has been named an assistant men's basketball coach at Ohio Northern University.
He comes to ONU after a one-year stint as an assistant coach at Trine (ind.) in 2018-19.
"We are very excited to have Zach on our staff," ONU head coach Rich Bensman said. "Zach's energy and enthusiasm are contagious. We had an outstanding pool of applicants and and feel very fortunate to have him at Ohio Northern."
A native of Lansing, Mich., Hurth attended Albion (Mich.) in 2011-15 where he was a four-year varsity player for the Britons.
Johnson Street has an "appendix" scar at the moment. The scar, right down the middle of the street, is due to the Ream Street Phase II storm sewer project, of which affects Johnson Street.
Monday is the deadline for the Village of Ada to accept applications for its fiscal officer opening.
Nancy Kindle is the current part-time fiscal officer. She was hired on April 16 and works between 20 and 30 hours a week. Kindle is also the fiscal officer of the Ada-Liberty Township Joint Ambulance District and was previously fiscal officer for the Village of Bluffton.
She was hired following the dismissal of Crystal Huffer, which took place during a special council meeting held April 12.
Huffer's dismissal was "due to misfeasance, malfeasance and nonfeasance, each of which is a group III offense as per the Village’s Policy and Procedure Manual.”
