Behind all-league hitter Light, hustling Wills

ADA - The deep Ada varsity volleyball team enters its third season under head coach Kyleigh Tabor looking to return to the upper echelon of the Northwest Conference this fall.

Four letter winners and three starters return from last year's squad that finished 10-13 overall and lost to Arlington in the sectionals. The Lady Bulldogs also finished 2-6 in the nine-team league standings.

Versatility will be a key for the Lady Bulldogs, who are not very tall but boast a lot of good, competitive athletes who are positionally interchangeable. 

ONU named 2019 Tree Campus USA; 10th time since 2009

Ohio Northern University was recently recognized as a 2019 Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Tree Campus USA, which was recently renamed Tree Campus Higher Education, is a national program that honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

ADA - The Ada volleyball team had to battle hard before emerging from its home opener with a four-set win over county rival Kenton on a hot Tuesday evening.

The Lady Bulldogs finished strong in the final two sets to prevail 25-16, 24-26, 25-21, 25-23 and improve to 2-0. The Wildcat loss dropped their mark to 0-1.

"Kenton outplayed us after the first set," said Ada third-year head coach Kyleigh Tabor. "We relaxed and didn't play our game, and Kenton wanted it more. It is early in the season and we have a lot of work to do."

Ada police responded to an attempted theft reported at 313 W. Lima Ave., Unit B, on Aug. 25. The report was called in at 9:56 p.m.

And on Aug. 22, police responded to a call of a loud party including a large crowd that the report stated put everyone involved at risk due to covid-19. The call was received at 10:30 p.m. and the complaint was at 125 S. Gilbert St.

VAN WERT - The Ada golf team competed in a four-team Northwest Conference match Tuesday at Hickory Sticks Golf Course.

Lincolnview won the event with 168 strokes, followed closely by Columbus Grove (170). Crestview was third with 210 strokes and Ada shot 218.

Ada dropped to 1-15 overall and 0-8 in the NWC with the losses.

Junior Andrew Rush paced Ada with a round of 51. Senior Jacob Morgan shot 54, and junior Kamron Wilkerson carded a 55. Junior Dexter Woods rounded out the Ada scorers with a 58. 

Freshman Jack Baumgartner shot 64 and sophomore Geddes Klingler added a 66 for Ada.
