Homecoming Oct. 4-6 weekend

Ohio Northern University will give it the ‘ol college try with a full slate of activities on tap for Homecoming weekend Oct. 4-6.

The annual event offers a special time for former students to return to their college home, relive cherished memories, visit with longtime friends and reconnect with their alma mater.

Ada schools have a 2-hour early dismissal for students today, Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Students are dismissed at 1:10 p.m. [K-3] and 1:30 p.m. [4-12].  Offices close at 1:45 p.m.
 

Due to on-going building repair

Due to ongoing repair work at St. Mark Lutheran Church the "Last Wednesday Community Meal" for September has been cancelled.  

Meal planners told the Icon: "We hope to be back and running next month on Oct. 30.  We are sorry for any inconvenience."

Bulldogs run at VW Invite

VAN WERT - The Ada cross country team competed in the Van Wert Invitational meet Saturday.

The Bulldog boys finished 12th in the 12-team meet. Ottawa-Glandorf (61 points) nosed out Shawnee (65) for the team title.

Lincolnview finished third with 79 points, followed by Parkway (119), Van Wert (123), Crestview (147), Elida (178), Ottoville (213), Bluffton (217), Paulding (251), Allen East (274) and Ada (350).

Bulldog senior Hunter Wells ended up 77th in a field of 150 runners to register the top Ada finish. Sophomore Seth Swaney came in 87th to finish second for the Bulldogs.

Junior Megan Light led the Bulldogs with 20 kills, 18 digs, two aces and two blocks

KENTON - The visiting Ada volleyball team swept Hardin County foe Kenton in a non-league match Monday evening to post their fourth win in the last five matches.

The Lady Bulldogs evened their record at 8-8 with the 26-24, 25-18, 25-20 victory. Kenton fell to 1-8 with the defeat.

"Kirsten Poling went down with a knee injury in the second set so Courtney Sumner went in and helped the team work hard for the win," said Ada head coach Kyleigh Tabor.

Quakers out-gained Ohio Northern 592-473 in total offense

Ohio Northern rallied from a 35-17 third quarter deficit, but Wilmington scored with 28 seconds left to post a 42-38 football victory on a warm Saturday afternoon at Williams Stadium.

The Polar Bears (1-2 overall, 1-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) scored 21 unanswered points to go ahead 38-35 with 7:35 to play.

Northern's defense got a stop and took over at its own 35, but punted the ball after a 3-and-out back to the Quakers (1-2, 1-1) with 2:12 left in the game.

Wilmington took over at its 11-yard line and marched 89 yards in 1:44 to score the go-ahead touchdown with 28 seconds left to take a 42-38 lead.
