The Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy has received a $404,889 grant from the National Heart Lung Blood Institute to study the impact of methamphetamine on the heart.
Boyd Rorabaugh, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology and cell biology, is principal investigator, and Manoranjan D’Souza, Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmacology, is a co-investigator on the project.
This funding will provide opportunities for more ONU students to become involved in research while enhancing understanding of the long-term impact of methamphetamine abuse.
Kevin Hines, a suicide-attempt survivor, will discuss suicide prevention at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, in the King-Horn Sports Center gymnasium at Ohio Northern University. Hines is also a renowned mental health advocate and filmmaker. The event is free and open to the public.
Two years after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Hines attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge at the age of 19. He is one of only 34 individuals (less than 1 percent) to survive the fall and the only one to regain full physical mobility.
Junior Ryan Tatman (West Chester/Lakota East) finished 29th out of 87 golfers to lead the Ohio Northern men's golf team to a ninth place finish at the Mount Saint Joseph Spring Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Golf Course at Yankee Trace.
The Polar Bears (14-33 overall) rallied from a 10th place standings after the first round to finish ninth out of 13 teams with a 336-323—659.
Linda M. Stephens, 65, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at 6:40 a.m. at her residence in Belle Center.
She was born on May 7, 1953, in Lima, Ohio to Myron and Ora E. (Allen) Harpster. Her father Myron Harpster and her mother Ora E. Joyce preceded her in death. On March 9, 1970, Linda married Joseph P. Stephens and he survives in Belle Center.
Linda retired from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office after working for 19 years as a dietary supervisor. She enjoyed cooking and baking pies. She also enjoyed flower gardening and fishing.
