Blanchard Valley Health System’s Bridge Hospice Care Center Opens Six-Bed Patient Unit at Wood County Hospital

The Bridge Hospice Care Center, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS), has opened a six-bed patient unit on the second floor of Wood County Hospital. The Care Center was previously located at 1069 Klotz Road in Bowling Green and has moved to the hospital on Wooster Street.

While the effects of COVID-19 infection on the lungs are well-publicized, it is not just a respiratory infection.

Coronavirus can also cause a condition called myocarditis, a viral infection of the heart muscle. Just like it affects the lungs, the virus can invade heart muscle cells, causing inflammation and damage. This condition can result in the weakening of the heart muscle and arrhythmias or irregular heartbeats.

Thumb pain is a common complaint that patients have in our orthopedic clinic. It is most common near the wrist at the “snuffbox” area or basilar region of the thumb. This pain can be very debilitating because it affects all aspects of daily living that require using the hand for grip. 

Grasping gardening tools, kitchen aids or racquets as well opening jars can be particularly problematic. A variety of causes for this pain can be identified: tendonitis, arthritis, fracture and nerve compression.

Let’s face it, COVID-19 has not been easy on anyone.

Since March 2020, we have experienced restrictions, stay-at-home orders, mandates and a plethora of other new “experiences” that most of us have never had in our lifetimes.

With these “experiences” come different emotions, thoughts and problems including, but not limited to, anxiety, restlessness, insomnia and increased stress.
