The Hardin County United Way provided the Icon with this February update:
We are creating a robust Campaign Cabinet to help plan and implement this year’s Annual Giving Campaign. Duties will include helping to find and reach out to businesses to host workplace campaigns, helping to train points of contact at their workplaces, helping to plan and execute events, and having a general passion for helping our community. The goal is to make this more focused on community member involvement than just having a couple of Board members. Meetings will start off once per month but will end up being more as needed to help the campaign.
We have about 6-8 open seats on the board of directors. We’re looking for connected, active, and passionate community members to help steer the United Way into our future while also doing the work needed to get there. Meetings are once per month for about an hour, and there will also be committee work as needed. The only requirement to be on the Board is to donate to the United Way at least annually.

Bluffton merchants are hosting the 2023 Chocolate Walk from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16. Twelve Bluffton merchants are participating in the event, which provides chocolate treats to ticket holders.
The haul is more chocolate than most folks can consume in an evening. Bringing a bag to hold treats is recommended.
Tickets are being sold in advance for $10 each. Amaximum of 200 tickets will be sold.
HARDIN COUNTY–Cody Beacom and Jim Hoorman are the headline speakers for a Cover Crop Management program presented by the Ohio No-Till Council, Hardin County OSU Extension, and The Nature Conservancy.
The three-hour morning event will be held at the Plaza Inn Restaurant, 491 S Main Street, Mt. Victory, starting at 9:00 am on Friday, February 10. Coffee and cake will be provided by Wingfield Crop Insurance Service starting at 8:30 am.
HARDIN COUNTY--Participants for the thirtieth annual Hardin Leadership class, a program designed for the development of informed and effective community leaders, are being recruited until March 1.
Hardin Leadership is sponsored and conducted by the Hardin Leadership Steering Committee and Hardin Leadership Inc. Nine monthly sessions will focus on the knowledge/skills required by today's community leader, such as public speaking, conflict management, and marketing.
This year’s program will be offered in morning sessions, March through November. A tuition fee of $350.00 per person covers the expenses of the program.
HARDIN COUNTY–The 2023 Conservation Tillage Club breakfast program series will continue Thursday, January 26 at the Plaza Inn Restaurant in Mt. Victory. Each session will start at 7:30 am with a complimentary buffet breakfast followed by the program at 8:00 am. Other sessions will be held on
February 9 and 23.
The January 26 program will feature Amanda Matheny, Grain Origination Specialist with Cargill who will present a program on the Grain Marketing Outlook and the new soybean crush plant being built in Sidney. Matheny will provide information to help crop producers successfully market their soybean and corn commodities based on global supply and demand with an emphasis on market trends. Cargill is the largest soybean extractor in North America and will increase their local capacity with an additional 20 million bushels that will be needed to run the new plant being constructed in Sidney. Upon completion
in the summer of 23, the operation will have capability to dump 60 soybean trucks in an hour and draw territory will include over 35 counties in Ohio and Indiana.
