Colleges Against Cancer group on campus encourages community involvement

Colleges Against Cancer, an ONU organization and branch of the American Cancer Society, hosts an annual Relay for Life each spring on campus.

Nicole Michalek, co-president of the organization, said that members of the group will be at ReStore during its weekly dinner from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29. They hope to meet members of the community and invite persons to become involved in the ONU Relay.

“We are looking forward to getting to know the Ada community,” said Michalek.  “If someone is unable to attend the dinner that person can contact me at [email protected].

Holidays, filled with memories, can be difficult for those who have lost loved ones.

Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada will hold its 13th annual remembrance service at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at its Ada chapel, 311 E. Lima Ave., according to Bruce Neely.

Persons attending may arrive anytime between 2 and 3 p.m. Upon arrival, a personalized ornament will be given to the family to place on a large Christmas tree. It will be in memory of someone from the family attending the service.

A short memorial service will take place at 3 p.m.  A time of sharing and light refreshments will follow.

SECOND EXPRESSION was inspired by the financial need of the Alger Public Library and the desire to provide visibility and income opportunity for the artists in Hardin County.

Start your holiday shopping early this year at the 30th Annual Christmas Around the Square Craft Fair. The Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Hardin County Historic Courthouse in downtown Kenton. 

Sponsored by the Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance, the Craft Fair features three floors filled with arts, crafts, and home party dealers. The Kenton Top 20 will perform holiday music at 9:30 a.m. Homemade food is provided by the Hardin County Homemakers.

Anne Stratton, a well know antiques appraiser, will be at the Hardin Northern Public Library, 153 N. Main, Dunkirk, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

You may take three items to be appraised. She will not appraise money, stamps, weapons, or Bibles.

The Hardin County OSU Extension will begin offering Zumba fitness classes in November, according to Jami Dellifield, Family and Consumer Sciences Educator.

Classes are selected Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:50 to 5:30 p.m., in Simon Kenton School gym, 705 N. ida St., Kenton.

The cost is $15 per person and registration fee covers all classes listed.

Classes meet on the following schedule:       

• November: 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 28, 30

• December: 5,7,12,14,19,21
