Global Big Day, Saturday, May 14, is an annual celebration of the birds around you. On that day, bird migration will be in full swing.
The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve & Conservation Farm will host its annual Spring Migration Hike on the 14th from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Birders should dress for the weather in earth-toned colors and sturdy hiking shoes that can get muddy.
Join others for a walk with stops to look and listen for migrating and resident birds. Sightings will be documented on Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s ebird website and shared with any participants who want to share their email.
The Bluffton Lions Foundation is ready to host riders in the eighth annual Bluffton Ride to Remember on July 16, 2022, which includes an Ada Loop.
Three loops will be marked and mapped, providing riders rest stops with water, ice and snacks, as well as emergency support. Riders also receive a swag bag with treats from local businesses and a lunch coupon.
The Fun Loop is 11 miles. Great for young families and new cyclists, portions use Bluffton's bicycle paths, which are the beneficiary of the fundraiser.
The Hardin County Astronomy Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday May 11 in the Veterans meeting room in the Kenton Courthouse.
Those present will be given a draft of the Constitution and bylaws for the club.
There will be a program by Josh Crawford. Also, the Constellation Virgo will be
introduced. Ideas for the James Webb Space Telescope first light events
will be discussed if time permits.
“I can’t say enough about that young man,” says Vickie Wolber, owner of Norada Lanes of Troy Caskie, in whose name the bowling alley will hold two benefit events in May 2022; “He just had a smile that when you saw it, you couldn’t be in a bad mood anymore.”
Troy Caskie passed away on September 6, 2021 at age 31. A graduate of Cory-Rawson High School, he was married to Jessie Melton Caskie. His obituary describes him as “a family man whose greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family.”
