The Hardin County Pesticide and Fertilizer Recertification program is offered Friday, March 8, at the Plaza Inn Restaurant in Mt. Victory. The session lasts from 9 a.m. to noon.

This session is for private applicators and will consist of core, grain and cereal crops, forage crops and livestock, and fumigation. 

A lunch option will be made available at the Plaza Inn Restaurant for additional cost. The fertilizer recertification is from  1 to 2 p.m. Farmers must pre-register online at http://pested.osu.edu, call the Extension Office at 419-674-2297, or stop by at 1021 W. Lima St., Suite 103, Kenton. Pre-registration is encouraged.

A winter book fair is underway in the Ada school this week. Here are some fifth graders browsing the selections. The fair is open this evening during the elementary play.

Wedding and event venue northeast of Ada opened last fall

Crimson Lane, 4600 County Road 1, Ada, will hold a spring open house from 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 31.

The wedding and event venue northeast of Ada was opened in the fall by owners Mike and Jodi Willeke.

The venue has proved popular with over 60 weddings already booked. Crimson Lane also hosts events such as weddings, anniversaries, reunions, birthday parties, graduation parties, showers and business conferences and meetings. It is be open year round.

The 10,000 square foot facility is nestled between a 10-acre pond and a woods. There is a winding sidewalk, skirting the woods, between the large parking area and the building.

Jason Pinkney talks to Kiwanis Club

Dr. Jason Pinkney, Professor of Astronomy, Department of Physics & Astronomy, at Ohio Northern University, told members of the Ada Kiwanis Club  about the ONU Observatory at this week's meeting.

He said that the ONU Observatory has a mission to educate and inspire the students of Ohio Northern University, as well as the surrounding community, about the exciting and rapidly evolving science of astronomy. 

Fundraiser for AHS yearbook; must register by March 18

The Ada High School yearbook staff is taking registrations for a Board-Painting fundraiser planned from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, March 22, in the Ada High School cafeteria, according to Anna Yoakam, yearbook advisor.

“The workshop fee will help raise money for the high school yearbook program,” she said.

A pre-pay and pre-admission of $50 per person is required by Monday, March 18.

“Personalized information is needed during the registration process,” said Yoakam. “We need this information to ensure that everyone’s custom stencils are ready when you arrive to the event.”

ONU English faculty member Jonathan Pitts

Jonathan Pitts, Ph.D., associate professor of English at Ohio Northern University, has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar to Japan for the 2019-20 academic year.

He will teach at American Keio University and Hitotsubashi University in the Tokyo area and lecture in the East Asia and Pacific region. His previous Fulbright award was to Turkey, where he taught in the American Literature and Culture Department at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, from 2010-11.
