It used to be libraries were book depositories, borrow a book and return it.
They were places to read the latest magazines and newspapers, as well. Not anymore.
Libraries continue those services, but have added programming, many events for children from 0-5 on up to crocheting and quilting.
So, here’s a look at a few of the many activities at the Ada Public Library in 2017. The library celebrated its centennial, welcomed a new director, and began a major addition and renovation in the year that now closes.

WAYNESFIELD - Tournament host Waynesfield-Goshen used a second half rally to defeat Ada 62-56 in the semifinals of the first-ever Border Battle boys basketball event Friday night.
The Bulldogs fall to 2-6 and into the third-place game Saturday afternoon with the loss. Meanwhile, Waynesfield earned its first win to advance to the finals Saturday night with a 1-6 mark.
Ada led 35-33 at halftime, but managed only 21 second half points while the Tigers netted 29. W-G took a 49-45 lead on the strength of a 16-10 third quarter, and finished with a 13-11 fourth period.
The Ada Public Library board of trustees will be at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, for a reorganization meeting. The regular January board meeting will follow. The meetings are open to the public.
Larry E. Hollon, age 65, died on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 9:19 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born on February 17, 1952 in Kenton, Ohio to the late Noah G. and Anna Belle (Hall) Hollon. On April 12, 1975 Larry married Coleen K. Stone and she survives in Alger.
Larry retired from truck driving. He was a member of the Cornerstone Church Lima Campus. Larry loved his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his world.
SPRINGFIELD — Senior Amy Bullimore (Morrow/Little Miami) recorded her fifth double-double of the season to lead the No. 14-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 67-60 victory over Hanover (Ind.) in the opening round of the Kiwanis Holdiay Classic on Friday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to 9-1 on the year after posting their ninth consecutive victory, while the Panthers drop to 6-4.
Bullimore tallied a game-high 21 points and added a game-best 15 rebounds to lead the way for ONU.
GALLATIN, Tenn. — Junior Ryan Bruns (Chickasaw/Marion Local) scored 28 points and senior Nate Burger (Dayton/Alter) added 20 points to lead Ohio Northern to an 84-64 men's basketball victory at the Music City Classic on Friday afternoon at Volunteer State (Tenn.) Community College's Pickel Field House.
The Polar Bears (7-3 overall) also got 17 points and a career-high nine rebounds from freshman Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland) and a career-high 10 points from sophomore Austin Allemeier (Elida).
