Something old, something new--that's this year's ONU Holiday Spectacular which opens Thursday with one of 4 performances at the Freed Center followed the next weekend with 4 performances at the Civic Center in Lima.

Holiday Spectacular performers rehearse with the orchestra (bottom of picture) on Tuesday evening at the Freed Center. Emily Estep (far left), a musical theatre major from Fresno, Calif.,  sings O Holy Night, while the chorus gives backup to her. The chorus is dressed in a hodgepodge of costumes during this rehearsal, the outfits being worn corresponding to other songs the singers/dancers are in. O Holy Night annually is one of the goosebumps songs with beautiful staging, leading up to the songstress hitting the high notes in a moment of spine-tingling beauty.

Hanson-Neely Funeral Homes will hold its  14th  annual remembrance service at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, at its Ada chapel, 311 E. Lima Ave., according to Bruce Neely.

Persons attending may arrive anytime between 2 and 3 p.m. Upon arrival, a personalized ornament will be given to the family to place on a Christmas tree. Call ahead (419-634-2936) so the ornament can be personalized in memory of someone from the family attending.

A short memorial service will take place at 3 p.m.  A time of sharing and light refreshments will follow.

The annual Kiwanis Club spaghetti dinner will be held from 4:30 until 7 p.m. on Thursday in the high school cafeteria.

Tickets are $8 at the door for dine in or carry out, those 10 and under free. Last year 230 meals were served.

Proceeds go to Kiwanis activities in the community, mostly for youth programs. More than 230 people enjoyed the spaghetti dinner last year.
