MEDIA RELEASE_On April 23, 1971, the Carpenters released their song Rainy Days and Mondays. The Carpenter siblings were Richard, an older brother, and sister Karen. Richard grew up learning the piano, while Karen played the drums. Both provided vocals for the group, but Karen’s voice was what made the group recognizable. Karen’s voice was described as a warm, rich, velvety contralto spanning 3 octaves. In 1971, the Carpenters won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

Ohio Northern University will award approximately 742 degrees to its Class of 2026 at three ceremonies on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, 2026.

The president-elect of the American Bar Association, a professor emeritus of pharmacy at the University of Toledo, and a U.S. Navy veteran who dedicated over 30 years to military service and national intelligence, are the commencement speakers.

The May 14 dedication ceremony to be attended by Gov. Mike DeWine at the Ray Brown Memorial Park, 1014 N Ohio St, Alger, will begin at 2:00 p.m.
