On Feb. 22 23 new members were inducted into the Ada Junior Beta Club. Current second-year 8th grade members were also recognized. Club membership is based upon several aspects of school including high academic achievement. (More photos on Ada Bulldog Facebook)
About 900 people are expected to attend the annual Conservation Tillage Conference to be held in McIntosh Center on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 6-7. Sixty presenters are scheduled to talk. And, many agribusiness exhibitors will be on hand.
Allen and Hardin for Election Action and Democracy (AHEAD), a local citizen advocacy group, will hold its one-year anniversary celebration from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, in the Bluffton town hall.
"Over the past year, AHEAD has helped elect candidates, organized rallies, advocated for redistricting reform, and recruited hundreds of members," according to Maya Fischhoff of the organization.
The event is open to the public. It will include a presentation from Perry Bush, Bluffton University faculty member, who will speak about the role of citizen advocacy groups in the present political context.
What are Ada Schools doing to keep all of those safe at the school? In light of the recent deadly shooting at a school in Florida, Ada Schools Superintendent Meri Skilliter recently posted a message on Facebook that describes efforts that have been undertaken in the past and more recently. She wrote:
“This is a bulleted list of things I came up with yesterday. I have to believe there are other things I didn’t think of. I also think that our administrators, teachers, counselors and our other staff really work to get to know students and know which students need extra love and attention, etc.
ArtSpace/Lima will host the 30th annual Kewpee High School Art Invitational from Feb. 23 to April 7. Eight Ada students have had 9 pieces selected.
Sumaya Tasnim had two pieces selected while Calle Young, Johnathan Rettig, Keli Trudeau, Klava Katayama, Kendal Guagenti, Kylie Guagenti, and Noah Mattson each had one piece selected.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Kewpee hamburgers and cheeseburgers will be served at the reception, as well as Februcherry pie. Awards will be presented at 7:15 p.m.
