University’s Wind Orchestra presents ‘Raising the Bar’ Feb. 28

 The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents “Raising the Bar” by the Ohio Northern University Wind Orchestra on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m.

Pulitzer prize-winning historian speaks at ONU in March

Dr. Gordon S. Wood, the Alva O. Way University Professor Emeritus at Brown University, will discuss “The Revolutionary Origins of the Civil War” in the Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, March 14, at 7 p.m.

Wood’s talk will attempt to explain how the American Revolution set in motion the forces that led to the sectional split and the resultant Civil War.

The event is free and open to the public.

ONU to hold panel discussion on human trafficking

Ohio Northern University will present a panel discussion on “Human Trafficking: The Invisible Problem” in the Dicke Forum on Tuesday, March 12, at 11 a.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

The panel will discuss the issue of human trafficking, exploring the criminal aspects of the trade in human beings and the impact of trafficking on victims.

The panel also will look to raise awareness of the issue of human trafficking on campus and in the community, and to begin suggesting ways that everyone can help combat trafficking.

Dicke College of Business Administration at ONU honors seven with Pinnacle Awards

The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration at Ohio Northern University honored seven individuals with Pinnacle Awards at a banquet held Feb. 15.

ONU pharmacy student receives APhA scholarship

Victoria Pennington, a fourth-year pharmacy student from Groveport, Ohio, was awarded the Gloria Francke Scholarship as part of the 2013 American Pharmacists Association Foundation Student Scholarship Program.

The student scholarships are awarded to recognize exceptional demonstration of leadership skills and academics through active involvement in the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP).

The recipients will be recognized on March 3 at the APhA Foundation Contributor’s Breakfast and at the APhA Foundation Student Scholarship reunion during the 2013 APhA annual meeting and exposition in Los Angeles.

ONU to present Distinguished Lecturer in Plasma Physics

Dr. Steven Spangler, professor of astronomy and physics at the University of Iowa, will be the Ohio Northern University Distinguished Lecturer of Plasma Physics in room 107 in the Meyer Hall of Science on Monday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m.

The Distinguished Lecturer of Plasma Physics Series is intended to share with the larger scientific community the exciting recent advances in plasma physics. The event is free and open to the public.

Spangler’s lecture will focus on the Sun in the year of solar maximum. He will describe various solar phenomena, such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections, that cause problems on the Earth.
