Many patients and their families decline hospice care because the patient is “not ready to die.” I understand and have empathy toward someone who does not want to die, but receiving hospice care does not cause death. The reality is hospice care enhances many patients’ quality of life so that they are able to enjoy more of their time with family and friends.

Here’s a story about the 1988 Farmers and Merchant’s Picnic:

August 1988 a new event was added to the Farmers and Merchants picnic and a large, impatient crowd initially waited on the game called Bessie Bingo.

As the hour approached for the release of Bessie, names were drawn from a bucket and spaces were assigned. Curious onlookers gathered as anxious ticket buyers located the empty space and wished for something in it.

Men lose despite Ryan Bruns’ double-double

The Ohio Northern women's basketball program earned a critical Ohio Athletic Conference victory Wednesday evening, toppling the Wilmington Quakers 64-55 at Raizk Arena in Wilmington, Ohio to halt a recent two-game losing skid.

With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 11-7 overall, including a 5-6 mark against the conference loop. More importantly, the victory gives ONU sole possession of seventh place in the league standings, breaking a three-way tie with Wilmington and Heidelberg, who fell 78-54 at Baldwin Wallace Wednesday evening.

The Quakers dropped to an even 9-9 mark overall and own a 4-7 record in the OAC following their midweek loss.

Why not curl up with a good book on these cold January nights. ReStore downtown has a wide selection of used books at affordable prices. Here's a portion of those titles.

Middle school math team: The Middle School math team will have a makeup practice on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 7:45 a.m. in Mrs. Thaxton's room.

Several seats will be on the ballot

This is an election year for voters in the Ada school district.

On the Nov. 5 ballot will be candidates for Ada mayor, two council seats, three Ada school board seats, and one Liberty Township trustee.

In partisan races, a primary run-off takes place only when more than one person files petitions with a political party designation for the office. Persons filing as independents are not on the primary ballot. Filing deadlines for various offices follow:

• Ada mayor
Feb. 6 for candidates registered with a political party
May 6 for candidates filing as independents
