Ada's latest news

Diapers, sleep deprivation and dancing chickens

By Liz Gordon-Hancock
To everything, there is a season. And I'm not talking about the fall, winter, spring, summer... or even the Christmas season, but the seasons that come with motherhood. These seasons are typified by little things, like diapers or high chairs, soccer balls or pom poms.

If you have a teenager, you may be in the season of door-slamming and hormones. If you have a growing boy, you may be in the season of monthly shoe-shopping, as you try to keep up with your son's ever-growing feet.

For me personally, I'm in the season of diapers, sleep deprivation and a dancing chicken toy.

Phyllis Griffith of the United Way of Hardin County says, "This is the giving season and the United Way of Hardin County thermometer in Ada has risen  to 75 % of goal."

"Let’s make the temperature rise to 100!  Any gift is truly appreciated," she said, adding that 99 percent of all donations stay in Hardin County.

Village guide provided collection calendar and lots more

The 2020 Village of Ada waste and recycling guide is now available to residents, according to Eileen Peterman, of the village office.

A printer-friendly copy is attached at the bottom of this story. Copies are also available at the village office.

The guide includes a calendar for 2020 showing recycling collection dates and trash collection dates. Trash collection is weekly and refuse collection is every-other-week. The calendar shows the pick-up schedule for residents north of the railroad and south of the railroad.

It also shows 2020 holidays. If your scheduled collection day falls on or after the holiday, collection will be delayed one day during that week.

Don't be surpised if you find polar bears on Christmas trees on the ONU campus. It's a local phenomenon, as all Ohio communities carry on their own holiday tree ornament traditions. For example, in neighoring Bluffton it is not surprising to find a beaver on a tree, as is evident in the next photo in this series. (This story is also posted on Bluffton Icon.)
