Thanks for Ada's Volley for the Cure event

By Monty Siekerman
Amelia, Ada's little sweetheart, attended the Ada/Spencerville volleyball game on Tuesday to support Volley for the Cure. Over $1,500 was raised for Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, and it was learned that Amelia's cancer remains in remission.

Amelia had the best seat in the house, on the bench next to Melissa Gossard, Ada's successful varsity volleyball coach who is now in her 17th year of coaching in Ada.

Amelia, now 7, is the daughter of Beau and Christina Griffin, who are also parents of two sons: Jude and Willie. The little girl is now a first grader.

Parents of Ada School children and community members are invited to hear Kevin Hines at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the school auditorium. He will talk about thriving and surviving after a suicide attempt. He will have spoken to students earlier that day.

Hines has an inspirational story of treatment and recovery. He is an international speaker, author, and suicide prevention and mental health activist.  He is author of "Cracked, but not Broken: the Kevin Hines Story."

There will be a discussion panel comprised of first responders and mental health professionals after the main speaker.

The Ada Cub Scout Bears took a field trip to the ONU forensics department. Scouts are (from left) Ella Marshall, Chase Jarrett, Timothy Chrissobolis, Dylan Marshall, Brendan Taylor and Joshua Scott. Professors are Dr. Harold Schueller (left) and Dr. Dennis DeLuca. A forensics biologist performs DNA analysis, and toxicology and drug analysis to test physical evidence from arrests and crime scenes.

Mrs. Cristin St. Laurent and the Ada Elelmentary third graders organized a canned food drive. More than 1000 items were donated to the Ada Food Pantry last week.
