Ohio Northern University will hold a dedication for a statue that depicts Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s talk on campus 50 years ago at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, in the area between Taft Hall and the ONU College of Law building.
The event is free and open to the public.
King spoke in Taft Gymnasium on Jan. 11, 1968. It was one of the last speeches he gave at a college or university. According to ONU archivist Paul Logsdon, King spoke at Kansas State University on Jan. 19, 1968, and at Manchester (Ind.) College on Feb. 1. He was assassinated in Memphis, Tenn., on April 4.
Ada schools have adjusted the school calendar due to the most recent snow day.
One make-up day is required at this time. That means that the last day of school is Friday, May 25.

Ever want to sail the ocean blue in a concrete canoe? Yes, canoes made of concrete do float, and ONU students will compete with their canoe on Sunday at a north central regional conference at the University of Western Michigan. For many years, ONU student members of the American Society of Civil Engineers have built a canoe each year to test their engineering skills in competition with other colleges. They first try out their canoe on ONU ponds to be sure it floats.
A new addition to Bluffton Family Recreation’s class offerings to youth this spring is a home school recreation class, according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.
The class is open to youth of all ages and is held on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. in the BFR indoor soccer arena, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton.
Tinch said that the class offers lots of different physical education opportunities for homeschooled youth.
The award-winning Ada Winter Guards will give a free community performance at 8 p.m. on Monday April 16, in the K-12 gym. The Ada High School Winter Guard, Ada High School Dance Line, and Ada Junior High Winter Guard will perform. All three teams have been undefeated in Ohio Indoor Performance Association competition this season.
