For several years, Ohio Northern students have had a dozen or so dogs living with them on campus.
For a year, the college students train the pups to be service dogs. The dogs go to classes, the dining hall, and many activities to learn socialization. The students also take time with the pups to train them to sit, stay, walk properly, and teach them other commands.
After a year on campus, the dogs are evaluated to determine the best fit for being a service dog with someone with a disability. Then, the pups gain rigorous training for a person with a specific disability before being placed with a person.

The year 2018 saw changes in Ada, some of which are looked upon as progress while other happenings were not welcome. Here are a few highlights of Ada for this year.
* Construction began on the James Lehr Kennedy Engineering Building, a massive $30 million structure that will provide the best space and equipment for engineering students for years to come. Engineering enrollment significantly increased this fall as new students look forward to the new building, which will open next fall.

Ada police, fire, and EMS converged on Ada Schools on Thursday afternoon—not for an emergency but for a fun time.
Representatives of the three departments met students at the school doors at dismissal time. Santa and the Grinch were there, too.
School is out for winter break, which is a happy enough occasion for most students. The greetings and candy canes handed out by the first responders made school dismissal even more exciting.

The Village of Ada is considering annexing some property on the east side of Ada, which should be welcome by renters of East Side Apartments. If annexed, those who live in the four-building complex will have their water bill cut in half.
Presently, the renters of the 12 units pay double the water bill compared to those who live in the corporation. Apartment owner Dennis Kimmet asked for annexation. While at it, the village will also annex some land where the new water treatment sits. Presently, part of the facility is in the village and part is outside.
