Ken Collins, with camera in hand, visited the Exotic Zoo in Ada on Monday. The zoo happened to be at the United Methodist Church as part of the Ada Public Library summer reading program activities. About 200 people, mostly youngsters, were on hand to see, touch, and learn about all kinds of critters. The library held the program at the nearby church because a large attendance was expected, and the size of the crowd didn’t disappoint. Exotic Zoo personnel bring animals and birds that were mostly born at their zoo near Detroit.
It’s been a busy weekend on campus in addition to it being Alumni Weekend. Here are Ken Collins’ photos of The Cadets, a world class drum and bugle corps, whose members are making ONU their home for two weeks while they prepare their formations and music for shows that will be held from Coast to Coast during the rest of summer..
Here are drummers practicing...without their drums. Members of the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps practice on a field next to the Sports Center on Sunday afternoon. The 150 members of the corps arrived in Ada on Friday. At this early-on stage, the drummers are learning their moves on the field. Later, they will take up their drums and add the music to their steps. The corps practice in small groups in the mornings and afternoons, no matter how hot the blazing sun. From 7-9 p.m. at the ONU stadium, the Cadets practice as an entire group.
David Archer (left) was inducted into the Ada High School Hall of Honors on Saturday during the AHS Alumni Association annual banquet.
Keith Stover of Ft. Myers, Fla., was the oldest graduate present. He is retired from two management companies after having graduated in 1951.
David, served as a Marine in Vietnam. He was selected to the Hall of Honors “to give public recognition to his service, strength, and selfless sacrifice.”
