Meri Skilliter will start here Jan. 1

Meri Skilliter, McComb school superintendent, will be the new superintendent of Ada Exempted Village Schools replacing Dr. Suzanne Darmer.

On Dec. 21 she was offered a three-year contract at Ada starting Jan. 1, 2017, at $98,000 per year.

Darmer was Ada’s superintendent for the past 10 years and is retiring at the end of the year.

Skilliter, McComb’s superintendent since August 2013, is a resident of Bluffton and a previous teacher in the Bluffton school system.

Skilliter announced her departure from McComb School District through her blog on the school website.

In it she wrote:

Ada Buy Local partnered with Hardin chamber

The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance announced the winners of the Buy Local First Holiday Contest, which ran from Nov. 21 - Dec. 15.

The Alliance partnered with the Buy Ada First Committee and 26 local businesses on the event. There were over $1,600 in prizes given away thanks to the participating businesses.

The 25 Days of Christmas Buy Local Contest was a way to educate the community on the benefits of buying local and to encourage shoppers to buy local this holiday season.

The $500 Grand Prize winner was Marilyn Green, the $200 winner was Kristin Daws, and the $100 winner was Kathy Stedman.

Ken Collins take this winter photo on the ONU campus. It certainly looks like it could fit on a calendar representing a winter scene.

Here's a license plate found in the Bluffton school parking lot. You'll find it on a silver Mercury Monterey. I Peter, chapter 5, verse 7 offers an encouraging message to everyone.

ReStore will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 21, through Wednesday Jan. 4.  The community center will reopen at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5.
