The Community Economic Development Center (CEDC) at Ohio Northern University continues its entrepreneurship workshop series in the Dicke Forum on Tuesday, Jan. 29. The workshop will be preceded by a networking event at 5:30 p.m. The workshop will follow the networking event and conclude at 7 p.m.

The topic of the workshop will be “Taxes and Your Business” with Mary E. Fox, an attorney with Fox Ruhlen Co. LPA in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. This event is free and open to the public.

Although the calendar says it's still winter, interested boys and girls need to starting thinking of spring and signing up for soccer.

Spring soccer sign-ups will take place on the following dates and times:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 16, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Jan. 19, 10 a.m. - noon
  • Thursday, Jan. 24,  6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m. - noon.

All sign-ups take place at Restore Community Center, 210 North Main Street.

Parents are reminded that if your child has not previously  played with the Ada Soccer organization, please bring a birth certificate.

The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance economic development division announced it has received a Local Economic Assistance Program grant from AEP Ohio.

The $5,000 grant will help Hardin County focus on maintaining, sustaining and growing existing manufacturers by reducing/eliminated barriers to their growth.

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce has its 2013 membership drive underway, according to Deb Curlis, chamber president.

An attachment to this article includes a membership application form, reservation form for the annual celebration dinner and a nomination form for the outstanding business/industry award.

Widespread flu activity is being reported across much of the country and the American Red Cross urges people who have not yet gotten a flu vaccine to get vaccinated now.

The Red Cross also has steps people can take to prevent the spread of the flu virus during what the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says is the worst influenza outbreak in several years in the United States.

The Ada Public Library is starting off the new year with some additions to it's growing collections, according to Amanda Bennett, library director.

Along with more new books and DVDs for patrons to borrow, the library has begun a collection of music CDs.  Until now, the library did not offer compact discs.  

Ms. Bennett told the Icon that she enjoyed picking music across many different genres and added that the library hopes to build a collection that will appeal to a wide range of musical tastes.
