Hissong and Sumner compete in girls' events

TIFFIN - Two Ada track and field athletes competed in the Div. III regional meet Wednesday and Friday at Tiffin.

Liberty Center won the girls team title with 64 points, well ahead of second-place Colonel Crawford (46), and Defiance Tinora (43).

Columbus Grove captured the boys regional crown with 104 points, doubling up second place Archbold (52). Hopewell-Loudon finished third (51), while Bluffton took fourth with 50 points. 

Ada senior Brenna Hissong finished 10th in the 400 meter dash preliminary race on a hot Wednesday evening to miss qualifying for the finals Friday by two spots. 

Two outstanding Polar Bear Athletes

 Seniors Cameron Marous (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and Sydney Leshnak (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame) were named to the NCAA Ohio Northern's Clyde Lamb Award winners for 2020-21.

Marous is a 4-time All-OAC honoree as an attacker on the men's lacrosse team, earning First Team kudos in 2016 and Second Team honors in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

He led ONU with 22 goals, 24 assists and 46 points this season.

Marous is ONU's all-time career leader with 140 goals, 110 assists and 250 points in 71 career games. He also ranks fourth-all time with 130 ground balls.

There was a good turnout for a free Ada tennis clinic Saturday despite the unseasonable heat at the park. The Ada Tennis Association sponsored the event while the Bulldog varsity players and coaches taught. Free balls and racquets were given out. 

Miranda Wills will play for her father's program

ADA - It's official: willful Ada senior Miranda Wills is set to attend Ohio Northern University and play tennis for her father's program.

She continues a family tradition of playing tennis at ONU, following in the forehand footsteps of her father and older sister.

Miranda signed with ONU Tuesday morning at the high school varsity gym. Her father Scott Wills has been the head women's coach at ONU for two decades, posting a 389-104 record while winning all nine league regular season titles in program history.

Miranda enjoyed a fine senior campaign playing number one singles for the Bulldog boys team.

Bulldogs finish season at 7-15

ADA - In a late addition to the schedule, the Ada baseball team lost 11-3 to Pandora-Gilboa on an unseasonably hot Saturday night.

The Bulldogs finished the 2021 campaign 7-15 after the non-league loss. The Rockets ended up 11-13 with the win.

P-G never trailed and plated five runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach and secure the season-ending victory.

The Rockets blasted ahead with two runs in the first inning, then added three more runs in the third frame to advance their lead to 5-0. 

The Bulldogs plated two runs in the home fourth inning on a single by Tyler Jameson, closing the gap to three.

Women's and men's outdoor track and field

Three Ohio Northern student/athletes were named All-Great Lakes Region in women's outdoor track and field for 2021 by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Senior Stella DeWitt (Weston/Cardinal Stritch, junior Kayla Silva (Westerville/South) and sophomore Anna Schatzle (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) all earned the honor.

DeWitt was named All-Region in the long jump, where she is ranked fourth in the region and 27th nationally with a season-best distance of 5.60 meters.

Silva earned the honor in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
