Boys' soccer: Ada ties Miller City 3-3

Keeper Grant Preston was credited with 10 saves

MILLER CITY - The visiting Ada boys soccer team played to a 3-3 tie at Miller City Monday evening.

The Bulldogs (0-1-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half as Jacob Poling and Skylar Williams each scored for Ada.

MC then roared back with three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead to intermission.

But Poling tied it up with his second goal just over 10 minutes into the second half, and the game remained scoreless the rest of the way.

Isaac Spar dished out two assists and Williams added one assist for Ada. Keeper Grant Preston was credited with 10 saves in goal.

Ada boys apparently lose controversial opener at Indian Lake

INDIAN LAKE - The Ada boys soccer team kicked off its season with a disputed 2-1 defeat at Indian Lake this past Friday evening under the lights.

Ada senior Michael Crouse appeared to tie the match 2-2 when he headed a Jacob Poling pass into the net with just 53 seconds left to play. But the tying goal was waved off by the officials.

"We have pictures of the goal going in but they can't change the call on the field," explained veteran Ada head coach Jason Okuly. "I never saw anything like it. Their players saw it go in.

WAYNESFIELD - The Ada volleyball team won its season-opening match at Waynesfield-Goshen handily in straight sets Saturday morning.

The Lady Bulldogs easily beat the Tigers 25-11, 25-8, 25-19.

Junior middle Megan Light led Ada with 10 kills and three blocks. Senior libero Kendal Guagenti contributed a whopping 10 aces and came up with 13 digs.

Senior hitter Josie Poling knocked down four kills and dealt a pair of aces. Sophomore Kirsten Poling dished out 12 assists and made five digs.

Junior Aubrey Madison passed out six assists while classmate Miranda Wills hammered four kills. Junior Kylie Acheson added two aces.

INDIAN LAKE - The Ada girls soccer team kicked off its 2019 season at Indian Lake Friday evening with a 5-2 defeat.

"We started out very slow," said third-year Ada head coach Doug Poling. "The first half was disappointing."

IL opened up a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game with the first goal. Ada was later called for a hand ball in the box, and the Lakers extended the lead to 2-0 with a successful penalty kick.

IL stretched the advantage to 3-0 when they capitalized on a run down the sideline for another score.

ONU volleyball team picked by coaches to defend OAC title

Polar Bears open season hosting ONU Invite Aug. 30

No. 23 Ohio Northern has been selected to defend its volleyball conference title. The Polar Bears topped the Ohio Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll with Otterbein and Muskingum tying for second. 

Northern, for the second consecutive season, collected 79 points with seven first-place votes. The Cardinals and Muskies earned 64 points and one first-place vote apiece, while Baldwin Wallace laid claim to 52 points and the final first-place vote. 

State basketball tournaments return to St. John Arena

OHSAA girls basketball tournament in 2020 and boys basketball in 2021

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has announced that two upcoming basketball state tournaments will return to St. John Arena at The Ohio State University, including the 2020 girls basketball state tournament and the 2021 boys basketball state tournament.

Both state tournaments coincide with OSU’s spring break, which will allow for better parking options for spectators.
