4 from ONU on all-academic squad

Four athletes from the Ohio Northern men's basketball team have been named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for the 2018-19 season.

Two ONU tennis players receive conference honors

Ashley Ochsenhirt and Noah Elliott have been named Tennis Players of the Week. 

Senior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) has been tabbed the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the March 4-10.

Last week, Ochsenhirt posted a perfect 9-0 record in five matches during the women's tennis program's Spring Break trip to the Los Angeles, California region. In addition, the senior registered her 100th career victory with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles against El Camino (Calif.) CC.

WHITTIER & TORRANCE, Calif. — Senior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) surpassed the 100 career victory plateau and posted a 4-0 record Thursday, guiding the Ohio Northern women's tennis squad to 8-1 and 7-2 wins over Rio Hondo (Calif.) CC and El Camino (Calif.) CC, respectively, to conclude the program's 2019 Spring Break trip.

Ochsenhirt is now 101-39 in three seasons at Ohio Northern after transferring from Mississippi College following her freshman campaign.

PLANT CITY, Fla. — Junior catcher/infielder Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./St. Henry) became the 39th player in Ohio Northern softball history to eclipse the 100 career hit mark Thursday afternoon, leading the Polar Bears in a heartbreaking 10-9 loss to Penn St.-Behrend and a six inning, 14-2 loss to WPI (Mass.) in the 2019 Sunkissed Games.

BOSTON, Mass. — Junior All-American Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) earned All-America honors for the second time in her career, finishing seventh in the pole vault, to lead Ohio Northern on Friday evening at the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Senior Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern) finished fifth in her heat and 12th overall in the 800-meter dash in 2:16.96, while junior Allison Stevens (Naperville, Ill./Central) was 12th in the pole vault by clearing 3.70 meters.

Ian McVey receives Great Lakes athlete of the year award

Senior All-American distance runner Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Great Lakes Region Track Athlete of the Year for the 2019 indoor season, the national office announced Wednesday.

This season, McVey posted the fastest one-mile, 3,000-meter, and 5,000-meter run times and helped establish the third-fastest DMR time in the region. His 3,000 and 5,000 meter times are also among the top-ten times on the NCAA Division III national performance list.
