DES MOINES, Iowa — Ohio Northern alum Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) finished fourth in her heat and 13th overall in 2:03.35 in the first round of the women's 800-meter run on Thursday afternoon at Drake Stadium.
The top three finishers in each of the four first round heats, plus the next four best times advanced to the second round.
DES MOINES, Iowa — Just a few hours prior to running in the first round of the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championships on Saturday, Ohio Northern alum Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes) signed a professional contract with HOKA NY-NJ Track Club.
Richards competed wearing a blue and yellow HOKA uniform in the first round after the flurry of events that occurred over the past two days that resulted in Richards' signing.

The 9-time NCAA Division III Champion, 13-time All-American and two-time Academic All-American will be making her second appearance at the yearly American championships meet and will run the women's 800-meter run.
Richards enters the meet ranked fifth nationally and 48th in the world in the event with a season-best time of 2:00.67, which she ran at the Music City Classic in Nashville in June.
ONU senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) has been named a Google Cloud First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America for the 2018 track and field season.
Richards, a Chemistry major, is now a 2-time First Team Academic All-American, earning the honor for the second consecutive season.
The senior capped her career at Ohio Northern with a historic final season that featured all-time Div. III records in the 800-meter run in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Emily was also a 4-time National Champion in 2018 and a 5-time All-American.
The Ohio Northern men's basketball team will tip off its 2018-19 campaign as it hosts area- rival Defiance at the ONU Sports Center on Nov. 13 under third-year head coach Rich Bensman.
The Polar Bears begin the season with back-to-back home contests for the first time since the 1994-95 season as it hosts Denison at the ONU Sports Center on Nov. 17 following Northern's contest with Defiance.
Northern's first road contest will be at Hope (Mich.) on Nov. 20 at a time yet to be announced.

The Ada Alligator swim team dove into the first home meet of its 2018 summer campaign with a boys and girls dual meet vs. West Ohio Aquatic League foe Bluffton on a warm Thursday evening.
The Gator boys lost a close battle to the Sardines by a 208-190 score. Meanwhile, the Ada girls were beaten by a 317-122 count. Bluffton thus won the combined meet team score, 525-312.
The Ada boys and girls each fell to 1-1 in dual meets this summer with the losses.
