Junior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) posted two first place finishes to lead the No. 29-ranked Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team to a second place finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon in New Concord.
The Polar Bears (65-16 overall) finished second with 124.5 points.
Molinaro got Northern off to a solid start as he opened the afternoon with an All-Conference mark and claimed the 1,500-meter run title in a facility record time of 3:59.40.
The junior also claimed first place in the 800-meter run with an OAC record and facility record time of 1:51.46.
NEW CONCORD — Junior Emily S Richards(Delaware/Hayes) led the Northern women's outdoor track and field team to the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships title on Saturday afternoon in New Concord. The team is ranked 14th nationally.
The Polar Bears (78-4 overall) claimed the title with 162 points.
As a team, Northern set three conference records in the meet.
Northern won the conference title for the first time in seven years.
Richards led the Polar Bears on the afternoon as she won two events and was part of the OAC Title clinching 4x400-meter relay.
BEXLEY — Freshmen Katie McCourt(Fairview Park/Magnificat) and Jacqui Lohman (Liberty Township/Lakota East) each tallied goals to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team in a 17-2 loss at Capital on Saturday at Bernlohr Stadium.
The Polar Bears end their season 3-13 overall and 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders will enter next week's OAC Tournament at 11-3, 6-2.
McCourt scored on a free position shot with 2:45 left in the opening half and Lohman tallied a free position goal with 9:18 left in the game to lead the ONU offense.
Sophomore Maddy Reed (Lucasville/Piketon) set a new school and Ohio Athletic Conference record in the pole vault, while the 4x800-meter relay team of sophomore Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern), junior Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes), and seniors Genevieve Marchese (Beavercreek/Carroll) and Nicole Huber (Findlay) set a new school record to lead the Ohio Northern women's track and field team on the first day of the OAC Championships at Muskingum University.
The Polar Bears currently sit in first place after the first day of competition with 63 points.
ONU senior Kase Schalois (Van Wert) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase to earn All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors and lead the men's track and field team on the first day of the OAC Championships and Muskingum University.
The Polar Bears are currently in second place after the first day of the meet with 53 points.
Schalois led a 1-2 finish for Northern in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he won the event in facility record 9:15.66.
Junior Samuel Boyd (Killbuck/West Holmes) also earned All-Conference honors in the event as he posted a second place finish in 9:27.27.
