Run along with Donald Robey on an ultra marathon

Note: Donald competed in the Dances with Dirt Gnaw Bone, 50-K run (ultra marathon) on May 13. Here is his account of the competition.

On a beautiful Saturday morning on May 13 I embarked on the greatest run of my life.

At 5:45 in the morning 43 courageous runners started out on a journey that would test every muscle in their body; 29 would complete that journey.

Ada girls' finish 5th, boys' 6th at conference meet

Ada girls’ track and field team finished 5th and the boys’ team 6th in the Northwest Conference championship at Bluffton University. Grace Nelson, senior, brought home a first-place medal in the shot put.

Top four finishes for Ada boys’ included:
• Noah Mattson, sophomore, third, shot put, 43-5 ¼
• Brad Clum, sophomore, third, long jump, 18-9
• Alex Morgan, freshman, fourth, pole vault, 9-6
• Jake Agin, second, discus, 148-5 ½

ADA — The Ohio Northern baseball team saw five athletes earn All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades for the 2017 season.

Junior T.J. Storer (Loveland/Moeller) led the list as he earned First Team All-OAC honors, junior Jordan Bostater (Bryan) was named Second Team All-OAC and junior Brandon Kasberg (Mentor), sophomore Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn) and freshman Jack Schaller (Bowling Green) all earned Third Team All-OAC honors.

Storer was named First Team All-OAC as a relief pitcher and earned his third All-Conference accolade in as many seasons.

The junior closer led the conference and currently leads the nation with 14 saves.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Senior Kase Schalois (Van Wert) led the No. 34-ranked Ohio Northern men's track and field team as it competed in the Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) College on Thursday and Friday.

No team scores were kept during the meet.

Schalois broke a 4-year old school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he finished sixth overall in 9:05.32.

His time currently ranks fourth overall nationally.

Senior Lucas Shumate (Wapakoneta/Spenverville) led Northern on day one of the meet as he posted a fourth place finish in the hammer throw and a seventh place finish in the discus.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Senior Kendra Paul (Ada) and senior Kelsey Commager (Maumee) set the school record in the javelin to lead the No. 12-ranked Ohio Northern women's track and field team at the Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Ill.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

Paul finished third overall in the javelin throw and posted a new school record with a toss of 138' 1".

The throw currently ranks 13th nationally.

Commager also posted a school record and competed in the triple jump, posting a fourth place finish with a school-record leap of 38' 4".

ADA — Ohio Northern sophomore Emily Hershberger (Jackson Township/Jackson) was named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in women's lacrosse for 2017 in voting conducted by the league's nine head coaches.

Hershberger, a defender, was second on the team with 20 caused turnovers and was third with 34 ground balls this season.

She will enter her junior season as ONU's all-time career leader with 44 caused turnovers and is second with 69 ground balls.

The Polar Bears finished the season 3-13 overall and were 1-7 in OAC play under second-year head coach Beth Hemminger.
