Ada grad is Dayton Flyer All-American back for his fifth year

Dayton football coach Rick Chamberlin received a recruiting tip about a top linebacker at Ada High School a few years ago and drove to a practice to get a glimpse for himself.

But the prospect, Chris Beaschler, spent the day in the trenches at offensive guard, which wasn't a good sign. The kind of athletic ability needed to play linebacker at UD's level typically isn't found there.

Chamberlin was ready to write off the visit as a wasted trip, but the Ada coach intervened.

High-octane Bulldog offense opens the season with a big "W"

The 2016 Ada football campaign started off with a bang as the high-octane Bulldog offense scored 38 unanswered points, propelling the Dogs to an easy 38-6 victory over the visiting Upper Scioto Valley Rams.

Returning Junior quarterback Seth Conley threw for 308 yards and 5 touchdowns in his first action since week four of last season.

Ada golfers host 4-team meet

BLUFFTON - The Ada golf team hosted a four-team Northwest Conference event Wednesday evening.

Columbus Grove came in first with 196 strokes, followed by Bluffton (197), Delphos Jefferson (219) and Ada (298).

Senior Taylor Ramey shot a 66 to top Ada. Jake Colwell carded a 70 while Alex Morgan posted a 78. Nate Hurtig added a score of 84.

Aaron Belcher of Bluffton and Grove's Noah Oglesbee shared match medalist honors with a score of 46.

Ada is 0-10 and 0-5 in NWC play.

The Bulldogs are slated to play next at Allen East with Grove in an NWC tri-match Monday, August 29.

ADA - The Ada volleyball team swept visiting local arch-rival Upper Scioto Valley Tuesday night in a non-league match.

The victory improved the Lady Bulldog record to 3-1, while USV fell to 0-3.

The Lady Rams were scrappy and threatened in the final two sets but Ada overcame USV 25-7, 25-23, 25-20.

"We served hard and with good placement," said Ada head coach Melissa Gossard. "We came out on fire in the first set."

Lady Bulldogs fall to Kenton

ADA - The Ada girls soccer team lost a low-scoring county battle to visiting rival Kenton 2-0 Wednesday evening at the park.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-1 with the loss, while the Lady Wildcats improved to 2-0 with the victory.

Kenton led 1-0 at the half and added another goal in the second stanza to provide all the scoring.

Hannah Holland and Taylor Gilfillan netted the Wildcat goals. Kenton put 22 shots on goal compared to 13 shots fired by Ada.

Junior Melina Woods led Ada with a dozen kills, 16 digs and added two aces. Classmate Maddie Gossard passed out 15 assists, served five aces and hit four kills.
