BEXLEY — The No. 17-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team used a balanced offensive scoring attack on Friday evening as it swept Capital 3-0 at Performance Arena.

The Polar Bears improve to 17-4 overall and 2-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders fall to 9-13, 1-3.

Sophomores Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind.), Sydney Bapst (Grove City) and McKenna Jordan (Toledo/St. Ursula) paced ONU offensively, with 17, 10 and 10 kills, respectively.

Huppert hit a game-best .519 for the Polar Bears.

Ohio Northern sophomore Christiaan Williams (Sidney/Anna) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week.

In Northern's 51-21 victory over Capital on Saturday evening at Dial-Roberson Stadium, Williams broke a 17-year old single game rushing record, compiling 407 yards on 29 rushes.

The sophomore also added three touchdowns in the victory as he broke Ohio Northern Hall of Famer Jamal Robertson's previous single game record of 307 rushing yards.

ADA - The Ada football team will try to bounce back from a disappointing loss at Crestview when they host last-place Paulding in a Northwest Conference must-win contest Friday.

Last weekend's 49-21 defeat at Crestview all but eliminated the Bulldogs from realistic NWC title contention. Ada trails league leader Spencerville (4-0) by two full games with three left, and is also a game behind Delphos Jefferson and Crestview (each 3-1).

"We didn't play very well," said Ada fifth-year head coach Bob Olwin (31-21) of the loss at Crestview. "Their kids made some plays, we didn't play fast and we looked tentative tackling."

Both offenses put on a first half show in Covoy last Friday night, but stingy Crestview defense kept Ada out of the end zone in the second half, propelling the Knights to a 49-21 victory.  The tough conference loss drops the Bulldogs to 2-2 in the NWC and 4-3 overall.

The Knights opened the first quarter scoring when Crestview quarterback Drew Kline found Derick Dealey for a 2-yard touchdown.  Dylan Hicks’ extra point was good, putting the Knights in front 7-0 with 7:24 remaining in the quarter.
