ADA — The No. 7-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team needed a late run to keep their perfect season alive as they downed Capital 64-49 Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears move to 19-0 overall and 12-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders fall to 9-10, 5-7.
Senior Britt Lauck (Lima/Shawnee) scored a game-high 15 points, while sophmore Jenna Dirksen (Beavercreek/Carroll) tallied 11 points and junior Amy Bullimore (Morrow/Little Miami) added nine points.
Sophomore Tori Wyss (Ada) came off the bench and grabbed a game-high and career-best eight rebounds to lead Northern defensively.
ADA - Brothers Hunter and Thomas Phillips combined for 39 points to lead visiting Kenton to a lopsided 73-40 win over Hardin County rival Ada in non-league boys basketball action Saturday night.
The defeat dropped the Bulldog record to 3-13, while the Wildcats improved to 9-6 with the victory.
Hunter Phillips scored 20 of his game-high 25 points in the first half on repeated drives, while Thomas added 14 markers.
Kenton led just 17-14 after one period of play as Hunter scored 15 points, but the Wildcats blew the game open with a 24-4 second stanza and were never threatened thereafter.
ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Ohio Northern women's track & field team saw two school records fall as they competed at the Grand Valley State (Mich.) Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears finished 6th of 19 teams and moved to 16-6 on the season.
Junior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) broke her previous school record and won the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:09.46.
Richards currently owns the fastest time in the nation in the 800-meter run.
ADA — The No. 7-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team will host a Hoops for Hope Breast Cancer Awareness game Saturday afternoon as it takes on Ohio Athletic Conference-foe, Capital.
The event will feature the annual Alumni Game at 12 pm on Saturday, followed by a luncheon.
As well as selling baked good prior to and during the contest, gift baskets will be raffled off in the third quarter of Saturday's game.
Tickets can be purchased before or during the game with the winners being announced during the third quarter of the contest.
Tickets will be for sale at $2 each, three for $5 or six tickets for $10.
ADA - Host Ada pulled away in the third quarter to defeat rival Allen East 59-44 in a Northwest Conference girls basketball contest Thursday night.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-9 and 1-5 in the NWC with their initial conference win. Meanwhile, the youthful Lady Mustangs fell to 3-15 and 0-6 in the NWC with the defeat.
"We had four in double figures and all the girls gave us good minutes," said Ada head coach Bill Taflinger. "I am happy with their effort. It was nice for us to get that first league win."
Ada led 23-18 at halftime, but was never seriously threatened after ending the third period on a 10-2 run that led to a 13-point bulge.
ADA — Senior Devon Allen (Lima/Senior) scored a game-high 20 points to lead Ohio Northern to an 86-65 men's basketball victory over Wilmington on Wednesday night at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears (11-7 overall) extend their winning streak to six games and stay atop the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 9-2 league mark.
The Quakers fall to 7-11, 2-9.
Senior Konnor Baker (Ada) added 16 points and junior Joey DiOrio (Columbus/Watterson) and sophomore Ryan Bruns (Chickasaw/Marion Local) chipped in 15 points each for ONU.
Wilmington was led by Kameron Moore with 17 points.
