Ten-year old Ella Bardertscher was the clear winner in the children's' fun run before the 7th annual Run For the Roses 5K race at Ohio Northern University's Kerscher Stadium on Sunday, May 3.
It was a fitting tribute to her cousin, Angela Bardertscher, in whose memory the race is held. Angie, a graduate of Ada High School and ONU, died of cystic fibrosis in 2008 at the age of 27. Her sister, Kim, has CF, too, and had a double lung transplant in 2011. The race is also in her honor.
Senior Michelle Tuma clinched the match with a win at No. 1 doubles as Ohio Northern defeated John Carroll 5-2 in the championship match of the 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Lindner Tennis Center.
The top-seeded Polar Bears improve to 20-3, while the second-seeded Blue Streaks end their season at 15-7.
ONU earns the OAC's automatic bid into the NCAA III Tournament next week. The date, site and opponent will be announced by the NCAA on Monday evening.
The tournament title was the sixth overall and the third in the last four seasons for the Polar Bears.
These Ada High School students have been named Northwest Conference scholar-athletes for the winter sports season. Scholar athletes are letter winners in a sport who have earned the following GPA during the season of their sport:
Gold level -- GPA of 3.50 to 4.00
Silver level -- GPA of 3.00 to 3/49
